Why the hell is it so difficult to get a driver’s license? Or anything from the DPS for that matter.

Every time I go to the DPS they’ve changed the law about something and I end up waiting an hour to get to one of the desks just to have them tell me no you actually can’t get/do what you came here for because now the law says blah blah blah. I was just there a month ago to get my permit renewed and that day they said ok now all you have to do is come back and take the driving test and we’ll remove the B restriction and you’ll have your license. So I go back today to do that and suddenly now the law says anyone 18-24 trying to get a license needs to show proof of enough logged driving hours (which would only have been accepted if I had finished them before I turned 19 which is the most ridiculous and random rule I’ve ever heard) or have taken the 6 hour adult driver ed. class, neither of which was needed literally a month ago. Honestly the law was most likely already changed to that when I was there a month ago but the DPS people in no way told us that we would need that stuff when I came back, and there’s almost no way we would have known that on our own since in the very recent past anyone 18 or older could just come in and apply for a license and take the test without having had any form or driver education. This is like the 5th time I’ve gone and waited for like an hour at the DPS to try to do something only to end up having to leave without accomplishing it because the laws seem to change every time and the people at the DPS are so unclear about what you have to have or do. So now I’ll either have to find the driving hours log that came with my Driver Ed. in a Box and b.s. a bunch of hours and pretend like they were from last summer, or pay a bunch of money to take a stupid and pretty much unnecessary 6 hour “adult driver education” course (which doesn’t even make sense because you can do that instead of showing proof of actual driving hours, so pretty much you can technically get a license without having practiced at all before the driving test). And honestly I have actually driven enough hours just this summer to qualify, but since they’re from THIS summer they don’t count since I’m already past 19. Wtf even is that.
